Description

GARDEN TOURS AT THE CELLARS-HOHENORT with Jean Almon

With its towering camphors, delicious monsters, clivia, rose and herb gardens, oaks and ferns, the magical gardens of The Cellars-Hohenort Hotel in Cape Town’s verdant Constantia Valley are an artwork in themselves.
Now, taking place every Wednesday at 10:30 am, a guided garden tour with horticulturalist and gardening guru Jean Almon, who co-created the gardens 28 years ago, will once again allow visitors and guests the opportunity to spend a delightful hour exploring the diverse beauty of these award-winning grounds,

In addition to the remarkable camphor trees, planted by Simon Van Der Stel and found to be older than those at Kirstenbosch, there are currently more than 2 500 roses in the garden. These include the Liz McGrath Rose, hybridised in 2003 to commemorate Mrs. McGrath’s 80th birthday, and the Relais & Châteaux Rose, named to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the collective in 2013.
Tour the wondrous nine acres, stroll along the pretty pathways amidst towering trees and get the chance to meet some of the resident ducks as Jean reveals the splendid corners, hidden secrets and rich history of this botanical retreat.

Awarded the Relais & Châteaux Garden Award in 2010 and the Aliverti Floating Trophy at the Cape Town Flower Show in 2005, for their exceptional appearance, the gardens are a marvel for avid gardeners and horticulturalists.

When the tour concludes, guests can enjoy tea and freshly baked scones outside in the picturesque garden setting or on the hotel’s Conservatory terrace.
